How to Start Your Own Business Without Money

Creating and sustaining your own business is still the surest way to wealth. It is by far the more difficult route to take, but many have succeeded. There is a fallacy mindset that you need money in order to start a business. The purpose of this article is to challenge that mindset. Possessing the right knowledge and having perseverance and dedication is more important. Being prepared to fail a few times is also vital to your ultimate success.


1. 'Grow' some passion and determination. Determination is the separating factor. Passion drives determination. Find some areas you are passionate about and grow your skills in those areas through studies, training courses and the practical application of knowledge and skill. Find ways to make money out of your passion rather than resorting to making the niche that makes you money your passion.
2. Be prepared to reinvent yourself. Flexibility is also a great asset as you may have to ‘reinvent’ yourself a few times to find the right slant to tackle the niche you have chosen to operate in. Be prepared to give up one niche for another in the short term, moving with the times and changes in the economic climate and consumer demand.
3. Conduct a few tests run on your ideas to evolve them. Preparation and planning is vital before setting out on any venture. Business plans are evolving documents. Draft one and then ignore it for one year. Compare the practical rolling out of your business venture with your original business plan, and then refine the plan again. Work on this at least once a year going forward. Favour the least expensive idea over the cost-heavy one.
4. Start your business whilst still employed. 90% of entrepreneurs started off as employees in some or another capacity prior to venturing out on their own. Firstly, never sign an employment contract containing a restraint of trade. Then, once you have adequate knowledge and experience, the ideal is to make the transition from a full time employee to a consultant, still in the same industry or even better, within the same Company. Slowly set yourself free from your familiar working environment in this manner. This allows you a soft landing, which is good for your mind and emotions and also gives you opportunity to have more flexibility of time in order to grow business opportunities and test business ideas without impacting your pocket too adversely within the first vital year of trade.
5. Find opportunities to build skills you require to succeed in the area you intend operating in, with as little cost as possible. Find ways to make lucrative deals with training institutions or Companies to have them pay for your training in exchange for services rendered. We live in a results-driven society.
6. Remember that the customer is most important. Always understand what the customer wants. Derive the best way to satisfy those wants. The main focus of any business is customer satisfaction. (secondary focus should then be quality, cost/profit, apperance, function of product/service, ect...)
7. Let your creativity replace your money. Get back to basics. Leverage and minimize the need for cash and aggressively increase sales activity through developing and implementing creative ideas and concepts. Always think big. Take massive action towards your goals and persist until you succeed.
8. Remember you are your best employee. Keep it small and cost free in the beginning. Be loathe and hesitant to employ people, unless you are guaranteed of their return on investment. If this is a grey area, rather don’t do it. Salaries are usually the greatest management expense in any business. You want to keep these costs as low as possible, in the beginning and throughout the life cycle of your business.
9. Involve your family in your business (wife, husband and children). Give them joined ownership of the success of your business. Many large Corporations have been in family generations for years. At the very least, entrepreneurs who started these great Companies have, in their children, totally dedicated Company leaders who can be entrusted with anything. Make sure your family agrees what you are planning to do. This is because you will use the family resources, the time, the money, the health, the nerves. After becoming the boss in your business you may soon become bossy in your family too. To avoid jeopardizing your family-life, discuss the business rules with your family and stick to the agreed plans. After all it still may be fun to run a family business, but things can go terribly bad, if you divorce yourself from your family-life.
10. Try to avoid Partnerships. Few were made in heaven. Most were born in hell. Rather make people ‘partners’ in various aspects, but never sign anything on a dotted line in this regard. Be careful when using the term ‘partner’ with business associates, as the legal concept of promissory estoppels (the spoken word superseding a written contract) might bite you at a later stage, especially if you start making money.
11. If you have a home, this is where your first office has to be. Write off a part of your home to ‘rental’ in your books, and pay this money into your bond, if you have one. The reason for suggesting this is obvious.
12. Build your ability to barter. When all else fails, negotiate. This is often the dividing line between a full time employee of a Company and an entrepreneur. In some countries, you have to negotiate a price for virtually anything. Try visiting one of those countries for a while to get some fun practice in. This is a skill you need to build as it requires strategic know-how and confidence. Take risks (but protect your legal rights) and you may be pleasantly surprised at the outcome.
13. Give discounts and offer better value for money than competitors. Money talks. Consumers want value for money and abhor the idea of being ‘ripped off’. Make good on your promises and never be tempted to engage in false advertising as it will ruin your and your business’ reputation in no time. Ensure your profit margins are protected when deciding on this aspect.
14. Make up for the absence of money with hard work. If you enjoy what you do, investing long hours in your business will often feel like ‘fun’ and you will do it willingly. If you are forced to do something you don’t enjoy too much to bring in income (only allow this for short term spurts) and are required to spend excess time doing it; ensure you carefully manage your stress levels. You may experience burnout before you start making real money or get anywhere in the ventures you are truly passionate about. This is a sure path back to becoming a paid employee all over again.
15. Know your rights. Having sound knowledge of Commercial Law, especially the Law of Contract and your Countries’ Legislative requirements in as far as business owners are concerned is important to succeed as an entrepreneur. Seeking Legal Counsel for every small aspect concerning the law will bankrupt you in no time. Rather build this skill and knowledge as far as you can before you begin forking out money to pay for it.
16. Look after your physical, mental and emotional state. If you lose your health, you lose it all. A healthy body, mind and soul (emotions included) are vital to success as a business owner. Try and get some income protector insurance in place as a self-employed person cannot afford to lose income to this possibility. Your gym fee is an important monthly expense and don’t be tempted to compromise on that when finances become tight. Keep grounded in your faith as you will need strength of spirit to survive the ‘jungle’ out there.
17. Get the balance right. Live life within balance. Even when you are starting out a business without a cent in the bank. Losing your balance and perspective in life will make you poorer in the long run and is never a risk worth taking. Never miss a night’s sleep, take drugs to aid your performance ability or meddle with your regular healthy eating and exercise plans. This will break you down and cause you to make irrational, emotional decisions which are never a good thing in business.

* Try and avoid borrowing money, wherever possible. Cash is King. Keep it that way. If you don’t have money, don’t spend it and don’t take on large operating expenses ‘in faith’ at any stage.
* Try and avoid committing to long term contracts, like leases or fixed employment contracts for employees in the beginning. As you are uncertain as to how things will pan out in the first year of operating in particular (the experimentation phase), making major commitments of this nature is plain foolishness. Just don’t do it.
* Don’t flippantly share your business ideas with others. Ever had a fantastic business idea stolen? If you have, you will unlikely be so foolish again. The betrayal element could destroy your confidence entirely. Prevention is better than cure in this instance.

4. Work hard! Even if you have to work ten hours a day, do not get lazy. Everything in life has its prize. You have to be willing to pay it. The work really does pay off. 5. Fight for your goals. Lack of money? Then DO something! There's always a solution, as long as you keep looking for it...There are many celebrities, writers, singers and actors who were poor at first. But they worked their way up. They didn't just isolate themselves from the others and be like:" If I should become an actor one day, it will come!" Yeah, it's true that sometimes destiny IS generous, but do not rely on that...If you have the problem that your parents say "no" to your dream, don't be mad at them. Try to talk with them sensibly. Mostly, parents just want the best for you, and if you say:"Mom, Dad, I want to be a musician!" it's logical that they're concerned. They fear that you will have a bad life, not enough money and stuff. But if you are well-informed and show them your plans, they'll see that you actually MEAN it and that you are willing to take responsibility for your actions. If they still say no, just do it. After all, you live just once. And you are not, I repeat, not, their painting book which they can fill in with their favourite colors!
* If you did all this, it's a great way to move forwards towards your goals. However, a good education and some certificates won't hurt. For example, if you want to be a dancer and you break your leg and the doctor tells you: "Sorry, but you'll never be able to dance again!"...It's always good to have a back-up
6. Now go your way, be confident, ambitious hard-working, optimistic and you'll get everything you want. You want to grab the stars? Before you know it, you'll be one yourself if you are willing to give things up for your goals.

Bebeerapa hari belakangan ini gonjang-ganjing krisis keuangan yang tengah melanda Amerika Serikat berimbas ke beberapa negara lainnya, termasuk Indonesia. Menyikapi hal ini, Presiden SBY sudah mengingatkan agar kita tak mencari keuntungan di tengah krisis ini karena akan tambah memperparah keadaan. Peringatan itu secara tidak langsung juga ditujukan untuk para pemburu dollar di internet, khususnya yang memanfaatkan jasa paypal sebagai alat pembayaran online. Apa pasal?

Gonjang-ganjing krisis keuangan ini ternyata membuat kurs dollar USD atas rupiah meningkat. Sekitar dua bulan lalu, saya menarik uang dari paypal dari satuan mata uang USD perdollarnya senilai Rp 8.800. Dan dua hari kemarin saya cek, kurs USD di paypal ke rupiah nyaris Rp 10.000. Capaian tertinggi sebelumnya Rp 9445.

Memang sih, kalau kita menarik uang dari paypal dalam kisaran 100-an USD selisihnya tak begitu mencolok. Taruh saja dari Rp 9000 ke 10.000, seleisih 1000 x 100= Rp 100.000. Tapi bagi saya, ada rasa puas yang tak bisa diungkapkan (cieleh) ketika menarik uang dari paypal ketika kursnya tinggi. Apalagi kalau jumlah yang ingin dicairkan lumayan banyak.

Apa kemudian perilaku seperti ini bisa disebut sebagai menguntungkan diri sendiri, oportunis? Ah saya rasa tidak. Lagian kalau kita mencairkan uang dari paypal, kita juga turut menyetor pemasukan ke bank tempat kita menyimpan uang. Dan kita tak dengan sengaja menimbun uang, yang dimaksudkan untuk mempermainkan rupiah dan mengeruk keuntungan. Kita cuma pemain kecil, yang mendapatkan upah dari jerih payah dengan bayaran satuan matas asing negara lain, yakni USD.

Sudah Kiirim Dokumen, Paypal Masih Dilimt

Beberapa kali saya posting di blog ini mengenai masalah limit paypal yang tak diproses meskipun kita sudah mengirimkan dokumen yang diminta. Seperti yang saya sampaikan di sini juga ini. Beberapa waktu lalu saya chatting dengan dugloo (id ym) menyampaikan persoalan limit ini.

Dia bertanya, “memangnya dokumen apa yang diminta oleh paypal?”
“Dokumen yang diminta payment bill.”
“Dokumen yang kamu kirim apa”
“KTP”
“Ya iyalah, pasti nggak akan diproses.”
“Lha harusnya apa, yang rekening listrik, telp, tabungan itukah..”
“Iya. Kalau yang diminta payment bill, yang dikirim dokumen itu. Rekening listrik, rekening telpon, atau tagihan kartu kredit”
“Memangnya mereka ngerti kalau yang saya kirim KTP itu beda dengan rekening listrik”
“Buktinya nggak diproses kan?”

Chat di atas sudah saya adaptasi. Chat berlangsung dengan bahasa Inggris. Dugloo, anehnya, hingga saat ini saya belum tahu nama aslinya. Yang saya tahu, dia tinggal di India. Saya mulany dapat kontak dia dari miragecommander (id ym) karena waktu itu vcc dia habis dan menyrnkan sya menghubungi temannya, si dugloo itu. Sampai saat ini saya biasa pesan VCC dari dugloo dan miragecommander. Meskipun saya tak tahu siapa nama sebenarnya, tapi servis mereka ok banget. Malah bisa ditanya-tanya soal paypal. Soal Dugloo akan saya ceritakan di posting berikutnya.

Kalau ada yang bertanya demikian, ini bisa dipastikan pertanyaan yang muncul dari mereka yang masih pemula:) Dalam prakteknya, bagi anda yang sudah malang-melintang dalam dunia gelap paid review, menulis paid review yang original selain juga menghabiskan waktu juga bakal merepotkan. Apalagi beberapa paid review terkesan cuek dengan hasil review kita selama semua requirement terpenuhi. Seperti reviewme, misalnya, selama minimum kata 200 kata, link yang diminta sudah terpasang, mau review bunyinya kayak apapun, tak masalah. Termasuk juga linkworth.

Ada beberapa hal dan istilah yang perlu anda ketahui jika anda ingin bergabung dengan payperpost:

  1. Orisinalitas. Blog yang anda daftarkan, adalah bukan blog yang kontennya 100% hanya copy and paste. Yang lumayan ngarang ini, ngarang cuma satu alenia ini, cuma bolak-balik saja diambil dari situs advertiser ini.
  2. Tak Melanggar Hak Cipta. Blog yang anda daftarkan tak harus ber-PR 4, atau 3, PR 2 bisa diterima Memang, semakin tinggi PR dan juga rank alexa blog anda akan menentukan banyaknya tawaran review yang bisa anda ambil. Tapi untuk bisa diterima, tak harus punya PR dan juga rank yang tinggi. Selama seperti yang dijelaskan dalam poin 1, dan tidak melanggar sejumlah TOS Payperpost. Seperti tidak mencantumkan link-link crack, konten yang berbau porno, atau yang melanggar hak cipta lainnya. Konsepnya adalah blog, bukan website statis (seperti web perusahaan yang tak pernah diupdate), juga bukan blog gambar/photo.
  3. Blog gratisan tak jadi soal. Tapi disarankan menggunakan blogspot, bukan wordpress. Pertama, beberapa advertiser menolak blog dari wordpress, dan dari pihak wordpress sendiri, mereka melarang blognya dipakai untuk mencari duit, termasuk untuk paid review. Mungkin pertama-tama anda masih aman, tapi lain waktu jika ketahuan akan dihapus blog anda.
  4. Disclosure Policy. Ini semacam keterangan tentang blog anda. Misalnya, menjelaskan jika isi blog anda adalah pendapat pribadi, beberapa diantaranya adalah posting review untuk pihak ketiga, dan lain-lain. Mulanya, Payperpost meski banyak mendapatkan tentangan, tetap mengharuskan setiap posting review mencantumkan ini. Tapi sekarang, beberapa advertiser dalam keterangan reveiwnya, menyarankan publisher tidak mencantumkan disclosure policy. Logikanya begini, dengan diberi disclosure makan akan ketahuan jika posting itu review. Ini akan lebih mudah dideteksi oleh Google. Payperpost sepertinya ingin kukuh dengan prinsipnya, seperti hendak mengatakan, kenapa harus malu mengatakan jika posting anda itu paid review kalau kenyatannya toh anda dapat upah dari paid review. Masalahnya bukan itu, yang sering komplain justru dari pihak advertiser. Mereka lebih suka jika review itu tidak diberi embel-embel jika itu review, biar terkesan posting biasa. Kita lihat saja, sanggupkah ia teguh dengan prinsipnya dan bergesekan dengan perusahaan raksasa sebesar Google yang masih dijadikan rujukan (khususnya PR) untuk para advertiser paid review. Nah disclosure itu jika diminta, bisa dibuat dalam satu halaman khusus yang isinya menjelaskan keterangan itu, bisa dipasang linknya di halaman depan, tapi ada juga yang hanya meminta di halaman posting. Saran saya, karena ada yang meminta, ada yang tidak, maka anda siapkan saja halaman disclosure itu, dan jika sewaktu-waktu ada yang minta, bisa dipasangkan linknya di bawah posting review. Contohnya, bisa lihat di blog saya ini
  5. Selingi review dengan Non-posting review. Setiap posting review, minimal harus diselingi satu posting non review. Misalnya anda ada tawaran 3 review. Tidak bisa anda langsung memostingnya 3 review itu secara berurutan, tapi harus diselingi minimal dua posting non review. Review 1 – non review – review 2 – non review – review 3.
  6. Menambahkan Blog dalam satu akun. Jika anda ingin menambahkan blog dalam akun anda, minimal anda harus membuat review sebanyak 10 review, baru anda bisa menambahkan blog lagi dalam akun anda. Masalanya, jika blog pertama yang anda daftarkan PR-nya rendah, untuk sampai bisa ke-10 butuh waktu yang agak lama. Apalagi jika anda tak rajin-rajin mengecek tawaran review, karena “opportunity” di payperpost bisa muncul kapan saja.
  7. Mengambil Tawaran Review. Anda klik tab/menu “Open Opportunities”. Akan ada tawaran review, dengan blok warna abu-abu (grey), merah muda, putih dan hijau muda. Tawaran review dari $5 sampai ada yang ratusan $$$. Yang bisa anda ambil adalah opportunity review yang diblok dengan warna hijau atau putih. Nanti anda akan diminta menjawab pertanyaan. Misal, apa warna langit, berapa harga permen perstauannya jika si A mendapatkan $100 untuk 100 permen (tentu saja pertanyaan dalam bahasa Inggris dan anda juga harus menjawabnya dengan bahasa Inggris pula).

Pada dasarnya semua bisnis selalu menggunakan modal, besar kecil hasil yang di dapatkan biasanya orang-orang lebih cenderung membandingkan dengan modal yang ia keluarkan. ketika pemikiran kita sudah terpentok akan hal seperti itu semangat untuk berenterpreuner kita luntur seketika. padahal di luar sana banyak bisnis yang smart & menguntungkan, salah satu contohnya adalah bisnis PTC di internet. banyak pweusahaan PTC yang beredar yang gampang kita kunjungi seperti NeoBux,SmithBux, BayBux, dll, kita tinggal daftar lalu kita mulai meraup dolar dengan mudah dan tanpa tenaga ekstra. Tinggal mengklik iklan secara otomatis uang akan mengalir ke rekening kita. selain PTC (paid to Click), ada juga PPC, CPC, dan masih banyak sumber-sumber dolar yang belum bisa di sebutkan di sini. selamat mencoba
